Force Field Analysis
Mapping Out Driving Forces for Change
This week’s leadership class module brought in a useful resource new to me: Force Field Analysis. This has been around for some time now, first developed in the 1940s. I like the way it helps map out driving forces for and against change. Let’s say you have a situation you are considering changing but feel stuck as to the why there is no movement, a force field analysis can help visualize the current (im)balance and help pinpoint what needs to change to help bring about equilibrium. This tool can be useful not only in business settings but in personal and relational situations as well. Here are a couple of designs I came up with, but it could just as easily be done as a list or two column comparison.
